New Galway courthouse could be built on Fairgreen site
The Courts Service of Ireland is exploring the possibility of building a new Galway courthouse on a site at the Fairgreen, the Galway City Tribune reports.
The Courts Service is looking at two sites, but is “particularly interested” in a land bank bounded by Lough Atalia Road and the Fairgreen, a senior official told the newspaper.
The site is currently owned by Córas Iompair Éireann.
According to Brendan McDonald of the Courts Service, negotiations with CIÉ are at an advanced stage, but a possible site at the Docks is also being considered as a fallback should negotiations fail.
The Courts Service hopes that the €12 million project could end with a new courthouse constructed and operational by 2020.
