A new charter has been launched to assist with court cases in Northern Ireland where one party is a litigant in person (LIP).
The Law Society of Northern Ireland, Ulster University and the Litigant in Person Reference Group collaborated to create the new charter, which is designed to assist lawyers, LIPs, judiciary and court staff.
It aims to help them build working relationships and encourage better communication and conduct throughout the cases in which they are engaged.
Its origins lay in a conference hosted by UU in December 2023, which heard of the challenges faced by LIPs and solicitors alike.
The charter was formally launched at Law Society House earlier this month and can now be found on the Law Society website.
