NI: Newly-admitted solicitors welcomed to profession
Newly-admitted solicitors have been welcomed to the profession by the president of the Law Society, Ian Huddleston.
As part of the Law Society’s Admissions Ceremony last week, the Registrar of Solicitors, Alan Hunter, presented the newly admitted solicitors to the Society’s President and to the Lord Chief Justice for Northern Ireland, Sir Declan Morgan.
As part of his keynote address, Mr Huddleston offered advice and guidance and reminded all of the words of John Davies, a former United States solicitor general, who said of solicitors:
True, we build no bridges. We raise no towers. We construct no engines. We paint no pictures. There is little of what we do which the eye… can see.
But we smooth out difficulties; we relieve stress; we correct mistakes, we take up other men and women’s burdens and by our efforts we make possible a peaceful life.
Mr Huddleston also presented awards to some newly-admited solicitors in recognition of their excellence in their studies.
Awards were presented to Lindsey Agnew for First Prize in the Solicitors’ Accounts Course; Laura Allen for Highest Mark in all skills-based coursework and assessments; Rachel Elizabeth Lewis for First Prize in the Thomasena McKinney prize; and Helen Monica Smyth for First Prize in the Professional Conduct Course.
