The Law Society of Northern Ireland has celebrated its 2024 Conveyancing Week as an outstanding success.

Organised by the Law Society’s conveyancing and property committee, the focus of the annual event this year was on providing support, building relationships and widening engagement through a series of events.

These included student events at Queen’s University Belfast, Ulster University, and with trainee solicitors at the Institute of Professional Legal Studies (IPLS0, with solicitors from across the jurisdiction promoting a career in conveyancing in high street practice.

The committee also organised an important breakfast event at The Mac in Belfast with a panel discussion between the Law Society, RICS, NAEA Propertymark and Trading Standards.

The panel of experts took the occasion to consider how ‘Material Information’ works in practice in light of already established efforts between the Law Society, RICS and NAEA Propertymark to “front-load” information so as to streamline the sales process.

A new feature of Conveyancing Week was the first-ever consumer event, featuring a panel session on a solicitor’s role in the house-buying process and a ‘mini fair’ with solicitor firms, NI Co-ownership, estate agents, mortgage brokers, and property portals Property News and PropertyPal.

The highlight of the week was the Society’s annual conveyancing conference at Titanic Belfast on Tuesday 15 October, which was attended by over 400 solicitors from across Northern Ireland.

The conference, supported by DUAL Asset, provided delegates with the opportunity to hear from a series of speakers and to receive important updates relevant to conveyancing practice.

This year’s Conveyancing Week also built on the success of 2023 with greater use of social media as a means of outreach and engagement with key audiences to provide guidance and to highlight the important role of solicitors in the conveyancing process.

Philip Amstrong, chair of the Law Society’s conveyancing and property committee, said: “After many months of preparations, I am delighted that the 2024 Conveyancing Week has proven to be such a success showcasing a joined-up approach amongst all parties involved in supporting consumers seeking to buy and sell a house.

“We are very grateful to everyone who presented, attended, and contributed to Conveyancing Week their commitment and support has been fantastic. We look forward to building on good work for Conveyancing Week 2025.”
