No plans to hold Killorglin court hearings in council buildings
The Courts Service of Ireland has said it has no plans to allow monthly Killorglin court services to take place in Kerry County Council buildings while Killorglin Courthouse is refurbished.
Court sittings have been moved to Caherciveen due to immediate health and safety concerns at the 148-year-old Killorglin courthouse.
The immediate works that are necessary include a full rewiring of the building, the installation of emergency lighting and fire alarms, as well as repairs to the raised floor area in the courtroom.
In a written Dáil question, John Brassil, TD for Kerry, asked Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald what plans she had to hold court sittings in the council buildings at Library Place.
She said: “Currently the Courts Service has no plans to commence court sittings in the County Council buildings, Library Place, Killorglin.
“The Courts Service intends to consult with local court users as to the medium/long term plan for Killorglin Courthouse and its business, including consideration of available alternative venues. It is expected that these consultations will commence in the near future.”
