North-south criminology conference calls for submissions

The Committee of the 10th North South Irish Criminology Conference has called for submissions for this year’s conference.

The general theme of the conference, which takes place in Maynooth University on 23 and 24 June 2016, is: ‘Beyond the Penal State: Exploring the Boundaries of Punishment’.

Reflecting various contemporary challenges to the traditional notion of punishment, this theme welcomes papers which seek to explore conceptions of punishment beyond the criminal justice system and also beyond the nation state. Papers on other themes are also welcome.

Professor Mary Bosworth of Oxford University and Professor Shadd Maruna of Rutgers University are the two confirmed keynote speakers for the conference so far.

The aim of the event is to provide a forum for academics, post-graduate researchers, community activists, practitioners and policy makers in the fields of criminology, criminal justice and cognate disciplines to come together to exchange ideas and disseminate research.

Papers from early career researchers are encouraged and there will be a limited number of student bursaries available for travel to the conference.

Delegates must email nscc@nuim.ie to register in advance.

For conference submissions, an abstract (max. 300 words) including a title, name and institutional affiliation should be sent to nscc@nuim.ieby Friday 25th March 2016.

Notification of acceptance will be provided by Friday, 29 April 2016.
