Northern Ireland courts will not sit on date of Queen’s funeral
Most business in the Northern Ireland courts will be adjourned on Monday as a mark of respect for the late Queen Elizabeth II.
The state funeral is taking place on Monday 19 September 2022, which has been declared a bank holiday across the UK.
Certain urgent business and emergency sittings may still go ahead, such as:
- Overnight custody cases, subject to the requirements of the Police and Criminal Evidence (NI) Order 1989;
- Time sensitive cases which, if not heard, create risks to the public or any one individual; or
- Matters of protection and injunction in the family and civil courts.
Arrangements are being put in place to deal with these emergency matters that may arise.
Cases where a defendant has been remanded in custody to appear in court on the day of the state funeral will be adjourned to the next available date.
