Nuala Egan SC appointed chair of Legal Aid Board
Nuala Egan SC has been appointed as chairperson of the Legal Aid Board.
An experienced barrister who previously served on the Board, Ms Egan succeeds Ms Justice Nuala Jackson, who was appointed in 2021 for what was originally meant to be a five-year term.
Joan Crawford, CEO of the Legal Aid Board, said: “We are delighted to welcome Nuala as our new chairperson.
“Her proven track record will be invaluable as we navigate the coming years, and pursue our mission of access to justice.
“Her appointment comes at a pivotal time for us as we aim to focus on delivering our responsibilities under the family justice strategy, increasing operational demands related to assisted decision-making and international protection, and preparing for the output of the civil legal aid review.”
She added: “We also wish the very best to our outgoing chairperson Ms Justice Nuala Jackson, and thank her for her significant contributions.”
