Number and value of personal injury awards down on previous year
The number and value of personal injury awards in Ireland declined last year, according to new figures from the Personal Injuries Assessment Board (PIAB).
Although the number of applications rose by one per cent to 33,371 in 2018, the total number of awards fell by four per cent to 12,112, according to PIAB’s annual report for 2018.
The total value of awards fell by five per cent to €298.55 million, while the average award decreased by one per cent to €24,649.
The vast majority (70 per cent) of awards were motor liability awards, with an average value of €22,682.
The highest award in 2018 was €908,749, while a majority of awards were under €20,000.
