NI: Paddy Kelly appointed to Charity Commission for Northern Ireland
Children’s rights expert Paddy Kelly has been appointed as the legally qualified commissioner to the Board of the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland (CCNI).
Ms Kelly, a qualified barrister who also serves as director of the Children’s Law Centre (CLC), has been appointed to the role for a five-year term until June 2026.
The CCNI was established as the regulator of charities operating in Northern Ireland following the enactment of the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008.
Its main functions are to keep a public register of charities; encourage, facilitate and monitor compliance with charity law; determine charity status; identify and investigate misconduct in charity administration and take remedial or protective action as necessary.
Ms Kelly has extensive experience experience on boards in the voluntary sector and on government-funded bodies, has been appointed to two government-led review panels and is currently a serving member on a statutory board.
