NI: Patrick Fahy
Prominent human rights lawyer Patrick Fahy has passed away at the age of 75.
Mr Fahy, who founded Patrick Fahy & Co Solicitors in 1970, acted for the families of Troubles victims in a series of high-profile cases.
He graduated from Queen’s University Belfast in 1967 and returned to the university decades later to obtain a Master’s degree in human rights law in 2010 and a doctorate in human rights law in 2013.
Mr Fahy, also known for his civil rights work and involvement with Sinn Féin, continued to work as a consultant for the practice he founded after stepping down as a partner.
Adrian O’Kane, partner at Patrick Fahy & Co, told the Belfast Telegraph: “For 50 years Patrick Fahy practised as a solicitor in John Street, Omagh. He represented his clients with distinction, ensuring that their rights were defended.
“To his very final days in palliative care at Omagh Hospital, where he was receiving the very best of attention, Pat was asking about this case or the other. Whether in life, law, politics or GAA, Patrick Fahy was sure to commit himself to the last.”
