Paul McGarry elected chairman of Council of The Bar of Ireland
Paul McGarry SC was named chairman of The Bar Council of Ireland on Friday.
It was confirmed that Mr McGarry would succeed David Barniville SC in the position following a ballot of Bar Council members.
Mr McGarry said: “I am humbled and honoured to have been elected to the role of Chairman by the members of the Council of The Bar of Ireland. I look forward to working with them, and the wider membership of The Bar of Ireland, in the years ahead.
“On behalf of all of the members of the Bar, I would like to express our heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to David Barniville SC for his dedicated stewardship over the past two years.”
Mr McGarry was called to the Bar in 1996 and appointed Senior Counsel in 2010. He is a graduate of University College Dublin (UCD), having graduated with a Bachelor of Civil Law (BCL) in 1991 and LLM in European Law in 1992. He primarily practices in the area of public, commercial and European law.
He is originally from Belmullet in Co Mayo and currently lives in Dublin with his wife Olya and their two sons.
