Paul Vickers hired as consultant for Independent News & Media

Lawyer Paul Vickers has been hired as a consultant by Independent News & Media (INM) to help it deal with an alleged data breach, the Sunday Business Post reports.

Mr Vickers was, until 2016, the long-time legal director of Trinity Mirror Group, where he led the publishing company’s response to Britain’s phone-hacking scandal.

Independent News & Media has not yet established how many people were affected by an alleged data breach which is also being probed by the Data Protection Commissioner, Helen Dixon.

The company’s data was allegedly removed from the jurisdiction and interrogated in October 2014 on the order of INM’s chairman.

A spokesperson for INM said: “Paul Vickers is providing consultancy support services to INM as it manages the current legal process that is under way, including the alleged data breach.”
