Permanent TSB has settled with a victim of the tracker mortgage scandal in what appears to be the first successful case, The Irish Times reports.

Solicitor Evan O’Dwyer of Mayo firm O’Dwyer Solicitors, who represented the customer, has said he expects it to be “the first of many”.

The settlement between the bank and Maria Page was disclosed to Roscommon Circuit Court yesterday, though the value was not stated.

Mr O’Dwyer said: “It was a long battle to get to this point, as the liability hadn’t been accepted by the bank and she was forced to litigate until the very end which was unfortunate.”

He added: “Everyone should be checking with their bank; everyone should make an inquiry to establish if they are affected or not.”
