Personal injury claims expected to fall by 20 per cent
The Personal Injuries Assessment Board (PIAB) is expecting the number of claims lodged this year to be down by 20 per cent on the previous year.
Stephen Watkins, director of corporate services for PIAB, told The Irish Times that the figure was already 10 per cent lower as of August and expected to decline further.
The number of claims has been declining year-on-year, dropping 23 per cent between 2016 and 2020, and Covid-19 is expected to drive this down further.
Mr Watkins said: “On the basis of the most recent application levels received, the overall reduction for 2021 could be around 20 per cent.”
This would mean around 20,000 claims in 2021, down from 26,009 last year and 31,072 in 2019.
