NI: Podcast explores litigation over hospital waiting lists, border poll, Brexit and legacy issues
Belfast human rights lawyer Ciaran O’Hare discusses his work in the area of judicial review and public law in Northern Ireland in the latest instalment of the Activist Lawyer podcast.
In the new episode, Mr O’Hare discusses some of his most important legal cases, from a challenge concerning the length of hospital waiting lists to a case concerning the UK government’s policy on a border poll.
Mr O’Hare said: “I am absolutely delighted to have been able to discuss some of the noteworthy cases that I am dealing with.
“I believe that the relatively new Activist Lawyer podcast is an excellent endeavour which deserves recognition and commendation by not just legal practitioners, but all those interested in the promotion and protection of human rights.
“The Activist Lawyer team are a credit to themselves and are doing a magnificent job of highlighting the need for us all, not just lawyers, to defend rights in a society whereby the powers that be have expressed a desire to curtail rights and indeed, ostracise so-called ‘activist lawyers’.”
He added: “A lot of the significant cases that I am dealing with are public law cases – cases of interest to the wider society and therefore it makes perfect sense that there is a platform for lawyers dealing with such cases to discuss them and the ramifications that they have for the people of Northern Ireland.”
Sarah Henry, director of immigration services at Newry-based Granite Immigration Law, launched the Activist Lawyer podcast in December 2020 and it has already welcomed a range of human rights lawyers and legal commentators as guests.
The seventh episode, featuring Mr O’Hare, is available on the Activist Lawyer website and Spotify.
