NI: Police investigating ‘explosive device’ thrown at Pat Finucane’s brother’s house
Police are investigating after a “crude explosive device” was thrown at the home of murdered solicitor Pat Finucane’s brother.
Martin Finucane, who lives in west Belfast, is a long-standing justice and human rights campaigner who co-founded Relatives 4 Justice and serves as a board member of the Pat Finucane Centre (PFC).
A window at Mr Finucane’s home was smashed when the device was thrown but a police spokesperson said it “did not ignite” and nobody was injured, BBC News reports.
Det Sgt Keith Wilson said: “We are extremely fortunate no one was injured in what was a reckless act in a built-up area.”
Paul Maskey, Sinn Féin MP for West Belfast, said: “This attack is reckless and shows a callous disregard for the Finucane family and the local community.
“This is an attack on a justice and human rights campaigner and as such is an attack on the whole community. Those behind this device have nothing to offer society.
“I would call on anyone with any information on those responsible for this attack on a home to bring it forward to the police.”
