NI: Police pay nearly £2 million to informers
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) paid out nearly £2 million to informers over the past five years, more than any other UK police service bar the Metropolitan Police.
The figures were released to BBC Radio 5 Live following a Freedom of Information (FOI) request.
A total of £1,995,392 was paid out by the PSNI over 2011-16, while a total of £5,270,659 was paid out by the Metropolitan Police.
Police Scotland, who only released figures for 2013-16 due to their reorganisation in 2012, said they had spent £565,248.
There is no data on how many convictions have been secured based on information from informers.
