NI: Possible return of death penalty in Turkey is condemned

The Law Society of Northern Ireland and The Bar of Northern Ireland have signed a statement condemning the possible reinstatement of the death penalty in Turkey.
A joint statement presented to the standing committee of the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE) by CCBE President Michel Benichou was signed by Scotland’s two legal regulators.
The statement affirms the right to life is “an inalienable attribute of human beings” and “a supreme value in the international hierarchy of human rights”.
It was also signed by other UK legal bodies, including the Bar Council of England and Wales, the Law Society of England and Wales, the Faculty of Advocates and the Law Society of Scotland.
