Prosecution of remaining Jobstown protesters to be dropped
The prosecution of the five people with outstanding charges related to the 2014 Jobstown protest will be dropped, RTÉ News reports.
Solicitor Michael Finucane said he had received correspondence from the Director of Public Prosecutions indicating that nolle prosequi would be entered against his five clients when the case comes back before the courts on Monday 2 October.
Six men, including Solidarity TD Paul Murphy, were found not guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court in June of falsely imprisoning former Tánaiste Joan Burton and her adviser during the protest.
Mr Murphy has since called for an independent investigation into why they were prosecuted in the first place.
He has also called for the conviction of a then 15-year-old boy on a charge of false imprisonment to be overturned.
