Rachel Minch SC to head new Law Society environmental and planning law committee
Rachel Minch SC has been appointed as chairperson of the Law Society of Ireland’s new environmental and planning law committee, which is to be formally launched next week.
Ms Justice Nuala Butler will address a launch event for the new body on Wednesday 29 March, the Gazette reports.
Ms Minch is joined on the new committee by vice-chair Conor Linehan SC and members Andrew Jackson, Brendan Curran, Danielle Conaghan, Eoin Brady, Fergal Ruane, Nap Keeling, Nicole Ridge and Zoe Richardson.
According to the Law Society website, the committee’s remit includes:
- assisting the Society in its interventions undertaken in relation to law reform or legislative proposals in the area of environmental and planning law;
- providing expert knowledge and guidance in relation to the body of environmental and planning law and its complexity and acting as a reference point for the Society and the Council on environmental and planning law matters;
- cooperating with and assisting other committees/task forces on horizontal environmental and planning law matters and issues cutting across different areas of law; and
- preparing submissions, statements and observations on environmental and planning law matters which are balanced, principles-based, and compliant with the Society’s policy development and communication processes.
