Refurbishment of Carndonagh courthouse ‘should start immediately’
The Courts Service should order the immediate start of refurbishment works at Carndonagh Courthouse following the receipt of a key report today, a local councillor has said.
Court sittings in Carndonagh were relocated to Buncrana at the start of March to allow for the courthouse to be examined and eventually refurbished.
Cllr Albert Doherty, who represents Carndonagh on Donegal County Council, told Highland Radio yesterday that a structural report was due for completion today.
He called for works to “start immediately once this report is received by the Courts Service”, and expressed concerns that the matter could be delayed further.
Cllr Doherty said: “The big, big fear is that there might be a recommendation of no works to be done and retain Carndonagh sittings in Buncrana.
“That’s the unacceptable version, that’s where we need everyone to come on board and for those in Government to ensure that what was in Carndonagh is returned to Carndonagh at the earliest moment.”
