Renua party leader breached data protection rules
Lucinda Creighton, then-leader of Renua Ireland, is among campaigners found to have breached data protection laws during the general election campaign.
Data Protection Commissioner Helen Dixon issued a formal decision that Ms Creighton breached the Data Protection Acts by processing a constituent’s number in a manner incompatible with the purpose for which it had been originally obtained.
According to The Irish Times, Christine Murray made a formal complaint after she was contacted three times by a member of Ms Creighton’s campaign team in the Dublin Bay South constituency.
It is one of seven complaints from members of the public about unsolicited calls, texts or emails from election candidates this year.
Ms Murray had not consented to calls for marketing or election purposes but believes Ms Creighton obtained her number from previous contact with her office.
