Report on gardaí disclosures sent to Attorney General
A report on protected disclosures by two serving gardaí has been referred to Attorney General Máire Whelan for advice.
Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald yesterday received the report by Mr Justice Iarfhlaith O’Neill, who was asked to review allegations of wrongdoing contained in the disclosures, make inquiries with appropriate persons or bodies, and report back to Ms Fitzgerald with any recommendations.
The report has now been referred to Ms Whelan for advice on how to proceed and what material should be put into the public domain.
In a statement, the Department of Justice said Ms Fitzgerald “is very grateful to Mr Justice O’Neill for carrying out this work so expeditiously and presenting his Report, which will form the basis for ensuring that the protected disclosures are properly addressed”.
The Department of Justice added: “When the advice from the Attorney General is received, the Tánaiste will bring forward proposals to Government to this end. The Tánaiste is not in a position to make any further comment at this time.”
