Respondents claim victory in DCU Moot Court Grand Final
A team of second-year students representing the respondents in a medical negligence-themed moot triumphed in last night’s grand final.
DCU’s Moot Court Grand Final, sponsored by Matheson, saw eight second-year law students from DCU’s School of Law and Government go head-to-head to present oral submissions on a case involving medical negligence and consent to medical treatment.
Proceedings were judged by Mr Justice John MacMenamin of the Supreme Court, Roisin Lacey SC, and Matheson’s Pat Dineen.
Caoimhe McMahon, Conall Maher, Anna Miskelly and Ciara Ramsbottom, representing the respondents, were named winners.
The appellant was represented by Aisling Durey, Yazmeen MacDonnell, Mairead Maguire and Jack Swayne. Mr Swayne was also declared best speaker by the judging panel.
Professor Gary Murphy, head of DCU School of Law and Government, told Irish Legal News that the standard of mooting on show was “exceptional and testament to the emphasis placed on mooting and clinical legal education at DCU”.
