Retired Aer Lingus pilots launch litigation over pensions
Dozens of retired Aer Lingus pilots have launched litigation against the airline in a dispute over pensions, the Sunday Business Post reports.
A total of 32 pilots issued High Court proceedings last week in a dispute over a miscalculation of pension entitlements, which saw the former pilots being overpaid for up to years.
An error in the Irish Airline Pilots superannuation scheme was noticed last year and engagement with those affected began in June.
The pilots taking action in the courts joined Aer Lingus under the age of 25 and took early retirement, and are expected to argue that they would not have retired had they known their actual pension entitlement.
A source told the newspaper: “What’s pissing pilots off is that a number would not have left if their pensions had been calculated properly.”
Up to 50 pilots have been affected in total.
