NI: Retired solicitor launches fair employment case against Department of Health
Retired solicitor John O’Neill has launched a fair employment case against the head of Northern Ireland’s Department of Health, The Irish News reports.
Mr O’Neill alleges that the Department, under the helm of permanent secretary Richard Pengelly, breached recruitment guidelines for Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) board members.
The retired Belfast solicitor lodged a complaint with Judena Leslie, commissioner for public appointments, earlier this year after he missed out on a position on the board.
The appointments were made by Mr Pengelly in the absence of a minister.
Mr O’Neill has now launched fair employment proceedings against him.
