Richard Hammond elected president of Southern Law Association
Richard Hammond, partner at Hammond Good Solicitors, was elected president of the Southern Law Association (SLA) at the association’s AGM in Cork last night.
Patrick Dorgan, the Cork solicitor who was recently elected president of the Law Society of Ireland, attended the meeting along with Law Society director-general Ken Murphy.
Outgoing president Joan Byrne, senior associate at O’Flynn Exhams Solicitors, presented the SLA chain of office to Mr Hammond at the close of the well-attended meeting.
Speaking after his election, Mr Hammond told Irish Legal News: “I am honoured to be entrusted by my colleagues with the Presidency of the Southern Law Association.
“The SLA has a long tradition of working on behalf of its members to help meet the challenges of professional practice. For the year ahead the SLA will continue to foster collegiality and to promote the positive role that the legal profession plays in Irish society.”
The AGM also included two cheque presentations to SHARE, a local Cork charity which supports the elderly, and The HOPE Foundation, outgoing president Ms Byrne told Irish Legal News.
The donations arose from “the very successful inaugural Cork Calcutta Run held in May this year, which raised €10,000 for these two very worthy charities”.
