Sean McElligott appointed partner at Philip Lee
Dublin law firm Philip Lee has appointed Sean McElligott to the position of partner. As head of the Technology Group, he advises on complex and large-scale technology and outsourcing transactions, intellectual property, ICT procurement, data protection, privacy and cyber-security law.
He holds a degree in electronic engineering from UCD and prior to qualifying as a solicitor, he worked for 13 years in IT for blue-chip brands including Bank of Ireland Global Markets and Motorola. As a result of this real market IT background, he offers a unique perspective on the interplay of technology and the law.
He also advises clients in relation to IT outsourcing, systems implementations and cloud computing. With significant experience of public procurement specialising in ICT projects, he acts for both public sector contracting authorities and private sector bidders.
Mr McElligott’s practice involves advising on the supply and implementation of new IT systems (including large scale ERP systems), the licensing of software and the ownership and licensing of intellectual property rights.
In addition, he regularly acts for companies in disputes relating to screen-scraping, misuse of Google search rankings and of Google AdWords, trade mark infringement and passing-off.
He lectures on ICT procurement and intellectual property law. In addition, he is a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) and the International Technology Law Association.
