Seven new members appointed to human rights commission
Seven new members, including five new members, have been appointed to the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission (IHREC) for a five-year term.
The seven members received their warrants of appointment from President Michael D. Higgins at a formal ceremony at Áras an Úachtarain attended by the Taoiseach.

Welcoming the appointments, chief commissioner Emily Logan said: “Today’s appointments made by President Michael D. Higgins, bring significant legal, academic and practical expertise to the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission in our purpose to protect and promote human rights and equality in Ireland, and build a culture of respect for human rights, equality and intercultural understanding.”
David Stanton in the Department of Justice added: “A strong, independent human rights and equality Commission is vital to ensuring that the rights of people are protected and vindicated and that human rights and equality is at the heart of the work of our public service.
“The Commissioners designate reflect a broad range of experiences and backgrounds and will bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to their new roles.”
