Belfast solicitor Shannon Gawley championed the role of young lawyers in shaping the future of the profession in a recent address to legal leaders from across Europe.

The 53rd European Presidents’ Conference took place in Vienna from 27 February to 1 March 2025, bringing together presidents and representatives from bar associations and legal organisations across Europe.

This year’s conference focused on “Deregulation and the Rule of Law”, exploring the impact of legal market deregulation on fundamental rights and professional independence.

Ms Gawley, an associate solicitor at Carson McDowell, was invited to address the conference in her capacity as president of the European Young Bar Association (EYBA).

She told Irish Legal News: “It was an incredible experience for me to address the presidents of global bar associations at the 53rd European Presidents’ Conference.

“Representing the European Young Bar Association on such a significant stage highlighted the vital role young lawyers play in shaping the future of our profession.

“The EYBA is committed to fostering collaboration, advocating for the next generation of legal professionals, and ensuring our voices are heard in key discussions regarding the rule of law and the evolution of the legal industry.”
