Shein designated as very large online platform under EU DSA
Fast fashion retailer Shein has been designated by the European Commission as a very large online platform (VLOP) under the Digital Services Act (DSA).
Because Shein’s European head office is in Dublin, the Commission will supervise Shein’s compliance with the DSA in co-operation with Coimisiún na Meán.
Shein has an average of more than 45 million monthly users in the European Union, which is above the DSA threshold for designation as a VLOP.
Following its designation, Shein has four months to ensure it is in full compliance with the DSA, including with the obligation to adopt specific measures to empower and protect users online, including minors, and duly assess and mitigate any systemic risks stemming from their services.
The Commission has now designated 23 VLOPs and search engines (VLOSEs) under the DSA.
