Siobhán Stack SC nominated as High Court judge
Siobhán Stack SC has been nominated by ministers for appointment as a High Court judge.
Ms Stack, an alumnus of University College Cork and the University of Cambridge, called to the Bar in 1995 and to the Inner Bar in 2013.
Her practice as a barrister spanned all aspects of Irish constitutional and administrative law, the European Convention on Human Rights, and several areas of EU law, including the Charter of Fundamental Rights.
She has particular expertise in relation to judicial review, international protection, citizenship (both the European Citizenship Directive and under national law), immigration, Articles 3, 5 and 8 ECHR, European Arrest Warrants and the Mental Health Acts.
Ms Stack will fill the vacancy arising from the retirement of Mr Justice Bernard Joseph Barton today.
The government has taken the necessary steps to formally advise President Higgins of the nomination in accordance with constitutional practice.
