NI: Solicitor appears in court on legal aid fraud charges
A Northern Ireland solicitor has appeared in court on charges relating to falsified legal aid documents.
Damien McDaid, 42, made no plea when he appeared in Londonderry Magistrates Court accused of committing 61 false accounting offences between July 2010 and January 2012.
Defence counsel Ivor McAteer accepted there is a case for his client to answer.
A defence application for two counsel to represent Mr McDaid was granted by District Judge Barney McElholm.
Mr McDaid, from Templegrove in Derry, was freed on bail of £500 after yesterday’s preliminary enquiry.
He will appear before Londonderry Crown Court on 16 November.
