Solicitor to receive €75,000 from ISME in defamation settlement
Irish business group ISME will pay €75,000 to Limerick solicitor Gerard O’Neill as part of a settlement ending defamation proceedings he launched two years ago.
Mr O’Neill, founder and principal of O’Neill & Co Solicitors, launched proceedings in the High Court in July 2020 after ISME issued press releases about personal injury cases in which he had been involved as a solicitor.
The business group had also submitted a complaint about Mr O’Neill to the Law Society of Ireland, which was dismissed.
Lawyers for ISME read an apology to the High Court yesterday. It was previously reported that ISME had agreed to settle the case for €75,000.
