Son charged in killing of legal secretary Marian Horgan
The son of a 60-year-old legal secretary who was fatally stabbed this week has been charged with her murder, the Irish Independent reports.
Marian Horgan, who was said to be a valued member of staff at Kevin Hegarty Solicitors in Cork, died on Monday morning at her home on Murmont Avenue.
Paul Horgan, 25, yesterday appeared in Cork District Court charged with her murder.
Judge Leo Malone remanded Mr Horgan in custody and told him to appear before the court again next Tuesday. A legal aid claim on behalf of the defendant was also approved.
Diarmuid Kelleher, solicitor for Mr Horgan, successfully petitioned the judge for a psychiatric assessment of his client while in custody.
The late Mrs Horgan, an active community campaigner and University College Cork (UCC), has been praised by colleagues and neighbours since her death.
Her funeral details have yet to be confirmed.
