State agency courting UK firms for post-Brexit expansion to Dublin
The Irish Development Agency (IDA) has approached UK and international law firms to offer assistance in opening Dublin offices post-Brexit, Legal Week reports.
A managing partner at one global firm said: “The IDA has been in talks with lots of law firms.
“It wasn’t so much to say you must come to Ireland; plainly they are saying that. It was more to say, ‘If you ever have a willingness to come, we can be helpful and navigate regulatory issues.’”
Shane Nolan, the IDA’s senior VP for technology, consumer and business services, said they are working alongside the Department of Justice, the Law Society of Ireland and The Bar of Ireland.
He said the IDA has spoken to “a good chunk of the top firms” in the UK, particularly firms with an international focus.
Mr Nolan said he expected a number of firms to announce expansion into Dublin “based on the conversations we are having and where those firms are in those decision-making processes”.
