Supreme Court begins to issue summaries of select judgments
The Supreme Court has begun to issue summaries of landmark judgments in a new initiative to increase access to justice.
Two judgments published this week have been accompanied by one-page summaries under a pilot which will continue for the entire term.
The pilot will subsequently be reviewed by the court and the Courts service to assess its effectiveness – but Irish Legal News understands that the measure has already been widely welcomed within the profession.
Eilis Barry, chief executive of legal rights group FLAC, told The Irish Times: “Under human rights legislation here, there is a duty on all public bodies, including the courts, to promote equality and human rights in carrying out their services.
“The Supreme Court move is a step in the right direction and we welcome it.”
