Teenager awarded €4k damages after chip and detergent dinner
A 13-year-old has been awarded €4,000 in damages after a Dublin hotel served his chips with detergent instead of vinegar.
Dublin Circuit Civil Court heard that Raymond Allen was dining with parents Owen Mellon and Svetlana Allen at the Radisson Blu St. Helen’s Hotel when the incident occurred.
Barrister Ray Delahunt said the teenager requested vinegar after his meal had been served, but the vinegar jug provided inadvertently contained a detergent or cleaning agent instead of the condiment.
The teenager sued the hotel for negligence through his mother, Ms Allen.
He was represented by Mr Delahunt and Kildare firm David Powderly Solicitors.
Mr Justice Raymond Groarke, president of the Circuit Court, approved the hotel’s €4,000 settlement offer.
