Three lawyers appointed to charities regulator board
Three lawyers have been appointed to the Board of the Charities Regulatory Authority.
The appointment of Máire McMahon, Niamh Cahill and Ercus Stewart SC have brought the Board to gender balance for the first time.
Ms McMahon is a practising solicitor and partner at Donal T. Ryan Solicitors in Cahir, specialising in family law. She has also served as a Trustee and Vice President of the Society of St Vincent de Paul.
Ms Cahill is a barrister of over 30 years standing with experience in senior governance in the sector, while Mr Stewart is a barrister with a range of experience with several charities.
Commenting on the appointments, Government minister Seán Kyne said: “Following approval from Government, secured by my colleague at the Department of Rural and Community Development, Minister Michael Ring, I am pleased to welcome the appointment of three new members to the Board of the Charities Regulatory Authority.
“The appointment of Ms Máire McMahon, Ms Niamh Cahill and Mr Ercus Stewart brings to the Board a wealth of practical experience and skills which I’m confident will help the Authority as it continues its work of regulating charitable organisations in Ireland.
The appointments ensure that the Board of the Authority now has equal representations, in terms of gender, which is very welcome.”
