NI: Trainee solicitor admits ‘horrific’ assault on girlfriend
A trainee solicitor has pleaded guilty to seriously assaulting his girlfriend during a drunken argument, the Derry Journal reports.
Kevin McDaid, 31, admitted a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm on 2 December 2017, but denied an additional charge of causing damage to a police car.
District Judge Barney McElholm told Derry Magistrates’ Court that the injuries Mr McDaid had inflicted were “horrific”.
Solicitor Paddy MacDermott, defending, said his client knew the incident would have “catastrophic” repercussions for his career.
District Judge McElholm released Mr McDaid on bail with conditions until the next court hearing on Friday 19 January.
