NI: Transgender judge to deliver second annual Belfast Pride Legal Lecture
A transgender judge will deliver the second annual Belfast Pride Legal Lecture next month.
Master Victoria McCloud is a Master of the Senior Courts in the Queen’s Bench Division of the High Court in London.
She will deliver a lecture titled “Rainbow Lives, Monochrome Laws: Reflections on law and identity” on Thursday at 5.30pm, with tickets available from EventBrite.
The lecture is organised by Lawyers with Pride, which was set up in 2016 to “ensure that the LGBT community know that they can access justice without fear or bias”.
Master McCloud tries and case-manages High Court claims in most areas of Queen’s Bench Division civil litigation. Decisions by her have included serious or complex historic child abuse claims, asbestos related disease claims, personal injury claims of utmost severity, modern slavery, defamation and media law, civil procedure, human rights and constitutional law.
Conor McCormick from the Human Rights Centre in the School of Law at Queen’s University Belfast said: “I am thrilled to see this lecture series thrive into its second year, building on the warm reception given to Lord Kerr of Tonaghmore last year.
“It is particularly pleasing to see that this year’s speaker boasts a strong academic background in addition to her senior judicial role. Her lecture is sure to be an event of the broadest possible appeal among all lawyers with pride in Northern Ireland.”
