Dame Siobhan Keegan, Lady Chief Justice of Northern Ireland, has paid tribute to Sir Michael Nicholson who passed away on 30 October.
She said: “It is with sadness that I note the passing of Sir Michael Nicholson on 30 October 2023 at the age of 90. Sir Michael, who took Silk in 1971, was first appointed as a Deputy County Court Judge in 1983 and then appointed as a High Court Judge in 1986.
“He was elevated to the Court of Appeal in 1995 and retired from the bench in 2006. Sir Michael served with great distinction both as a lawyer and in judicial office.
“He brought a unique and highly valued perspective to the bench indicative of his independence and character. He was held in high esteem by his judicial colleagues and the legal profession. I would like to express my condolences, and that of the judiciary, to Sir Michael’s wife, his children and the wider family circle.”
