Tributes paid to Mr Justice Groarke on handover of Circuit Court presidency
Tributes were paid to Mr Justice Raymond Groarke as he handed over the presidency of the Circuit Court to Ms Justice Patricia Ryan on Friday.
Ms Justice Ryan was nominated by the Government for appointment to the role a month ago.
According to the Irish Examiner, Mr Justice Groarke’s final sitting was marked with judges, barristers, solicitors and courts staff “singing, punching the air, stamping their feet, and thumping tables”.
Ms Justice Ryan said that her predecessor had brought a wealth of experience and a wide knowledge of the law to the role, as well as a strong work ethic and positive attitude.
Micheál O’Higgins SC, chair of the Bar Council of Ireland, said he was a fair and scrupulously honest judge.
