Up to three people to be allowed to visit prisoners
Up to three people will be allowed to visit prisoners with effect from Monday, the Irish Prison Service has announced.
Prison visits have been subject to various restrictions during the Covid-19 pandemic, but the prison service confirmed that up to three visitors – which may include two children – can visit prisoners from Monday 14 February 2022.
Prisoners are entitled to receive one physical visit per fortnight. Prisoners can also avail of a video visit during a week that they are not receiving a physical visit.
The prison service added: “Visits will continue to be subject to infection control measures including the wearing of a prison issued face mask. While the restricted capacity of the visitor waiting area have been removed in line with the recent government decision on social distancing, visitors are asked to continue to make an effort to social distance, if possible.”
