US: Arpaio in for some of his own medicine?
An Arizona sheriff beloved of conservatives for his hard-line policing policies has been found guilty of criminal contempt.
U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton found Joe Arpaio, 85, guilty after he defied a court order from 2011 to stop racially profiling Latinos on patrols and handing them to federal immigration officials.
Arpaio, who styles himself as “America’s toughest sheriff”, will be sentenced in October and could be jailed for six months.
The Maricopa County sheriff has been described as a “spiritual comrade” of Donald Trump.
In an article from last May, The Guardian commented on a video interview in which Arpaio details his anti-bestiality crusade.
“Arpaio in this televised address is more like a parody of Trump, revealing the absurd and fictional nature of the demons they pursue and the emergencies they promise to resolve. Arpaio comes on like a president rather than a sheriff, speaking with the grandeur of high office and promoting his anti-bestiality campaign as something that extends far beyond Maricopa County.”
