Views sought on firearms policy and law changes
A public consultation has been launched on proposed changes to Irish firearms policy and legislation.
The consultation seeks views on the recommendations of the firearms expert committee (FEC) established by ministers on a non-statutory basis in June 2022.
The FEC included representation from stakeholders, the Department of Justice and An Garda Síochána and was asked to provide guidance on a wide range of matters related to firearms licensing in the State.
Its final reports, published at the end of March 2023, contain recommendations on a wide range of firearms matters. The government committed to consulting with stakeholders before making any changes to policy or legislation.
The online consultation will run until Friday 2 June 2023.
