William Fry and Eversheds Sutherland Ireland discussing merger
The Irish arm of international law firm Eversheds Sutherland could merge into William Fry under plans being discussed by the two firms’ leaderships.
William Fry yesterday confirmed that it has “engaged in exploratory discussions with senior representatives of Eversheds Sutherland Ireland” about a possible deal.
It envisages that it would see Eversheds Sutherland Ireland’s “partners and staff joining William Fry LLP” in what would be a significant shake-up to the Irish legal market.
“Any potential transaction remains subject to the approval of both partner groups and any applicable regulatory approvals,” the spokesperson added.
The news comes just two weeks after ByrneWallace and LK Shields announced a merger with effect from 1 January 2025.
Corporate law firm Flynn O’Driscoll LLP and commercial law firm Vincent & Beatty LLP also recently agreed to merge.
More consolidation is widely expected in the sector as data suggests that smaller and medium-sized firms are struggling to keep up with larger firms in turning increased revenue into increased profits.
