Young Belfast entrepreneurs learn from Arthur Cox
Five young Belfast entrepreneurs learned about the legal process of setting up a start-up at an interactive workshop hosted by Arthur Cox.
Five young people from Catalyst’s Connect Young Founders Programme, which helps 16-18-year-olds translate their ideas into commercially viable businesses over Summer, took part in the workshop at the all-Ireland firm’s Belfast office.
Their ideas included an app for teaching children foreign languages, an agri-tech product to reduce lamb mortality, an app to support those suffering from dementia, sunscreen made from natural ingredients and an app to support young people with stress and mental illness.
The After the “Yes” workshop gave the students an overview of the legal process which takes place after they have secured a “yes” from investors, explaining and demystifying key legal topics for start-ups.
Topics included heads of terms, legal due diligence and the drafting of documents such as investment agreements, disclosure letters, articles of association and IP assignments.
Commenting after the workshop, workshop leaders Andrew Jennings and Anna McNulty said: “We were very impressed both with the ingenuity of the ideas and the students’ obvious passion for them. We were delighted with their feedback on the workshop and wish them well as they progress their ideas.”
