NI: 230 people detained under anti-terror laws
Almost 230 people were detained in Northern Ireland under section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000 last year, according to a statistical bulletin published by the Northern Ireland Office (NIO).
It is the highest number of arrests made in the jurisdiction under anti-terror laws since 2005. Under the law, terror suspects can be held without a warrant for up to 48 hours without court authorisation.
In 2014/15, a total of 130 charges were brought against people in Northern Ireland arrested under the legislation, including 29 murder charges and 16 charges of membership of an outlawed organisation.
There were a total of 15 convictions under the Terrorism Act 2000 as well as the Terrorism Act 2006 and the Counter Terrorism Act 2008 during 2014/15.
Between 2001-15, a total of 1,641 people in Northern Ireland were charged under anti-terror legislation.
